From the desk of Mr Raraty

A busy and exciting couple of weeks!

Thank goodness it is Friday! But for all the right reasons. It has been such an exciting and enriched couple of weeks, we all need a rest.

We had the amazing star gazing event last week, even if it was pretty cold, that was attended by some many people. Thanks, Mr Crawley for arranging. We then had the smell of toast fill the school for a week and raised vital funds for the school. We will let you know soon what we have spent the money on.

Then this week started off with the amazing Singing Squad doing us proud at the 02. As well as singing their hearts out their behaviour was impeccable. Miss Raban (still no baby news!) would have been so impressed. Thanks to Miss George and all the adults for stepping in and giving the children memories for life.

To top it off we had the pleasure of hosting Courtney Tulloch, the artistic gymnast, to inspire us but also to raise funds to support his training and career goals. You raised well over £4000 with £2100 going towards the school. What an incredible achievement!

We love enriching the curriculum with all these different events, but we can't do it without your brilliant support, so thank you very much.

Parent Governor Position Available

A position for a parent governor has become available on our Governing Board. We are looking for someone who is able to support our school but also provide appropriate challenge and constructive support when decision-making. A governor's role is to make decisions at a strategic level and not about the day to day running of the school. There is a commitment to attend meetings, read articles and policies and visit the school. Current and past governors have found being a governor a very fulfilling and enriching experience.

If you are a parent and think you would be interested in supporting Rodings become even bette, please get in touch with me to discuss what is involved in more detail.

The deadline for expressing an interest in the role is Thursday 9th February. If more than one person is interested the position will go to a parental vote.

Strike Action

Currently, I have none further update on what the possible impact of the industrial action will be on Wednesday. As you are aware, teachers do not need to tell me they are striking. Our intention is to go ahead with the plan published last week. I will try to keep you as up to date as possible on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning if there are any changes.

Attendance Letters

The next round of attendance letters are due to be published over the next couple of days. Anyone with attendance below 90% will receive a letter, even if it is due to authorised illness, as we have a duty to inform you of the current attendance level. Thankfully, attendance rates have improved since our outbreak of chicken pox last term. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Finally, I've attached the term dates for 2023/2024 academic year and details of the next quiz night by our Friends.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mr Raraty

Hello from the Rodings Governors!

I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

The school governors have met for their first meeting of 2023 this week and were delighted to meet and welcome out newest governor, Tania Williams.

Andy Mariner was elected as the Vice Chair for the Teaching and Learning Committee.

Mr Raraty then gave us his head teachers report, this included hearing that a new member of the support staff team had been appointed. We would like to give a big warm Rodings welcome to Gemma Curran!

Mr Raraty also shared the feedback from a visit this week from our school improvement partner, she noted on her visit how well the children behaved and how positive the atmosphere and ethos of the school is. What a compliment to our school!

We also discussed planned staff training and the current parking situation at school.

Several policies were reviewed with one being carried forward to our next meeting and the rest agreed.

Finally, we agreed the inset days for this academic year!

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Lauren Dearsley

School Transport Blog

Mrs Hook has a daughter in Year 2 and has written the following piece about school transport. If you are eligible for school transport please apply for a seat. It would really help with the parking situation.  Thank you!

I just wanted to do a little write-up from the perspective of a parent, on all the positives of using the school transport a lot of us have access to.
My daughter has used this service since she started Rodings in Reception. I must admit, I was dubious first of all, and I wouldn’t let her travel in on the taxi until after the first half term. It feels a little scary putting your child’s life in the hands of a driver who you don’t really know albeit for just a few minutes. When my daughter saw that lots of other children were getting school transport (and would see the taxis drive past the house) she then asked if she could use it too. She has loved it from day one and the driver at the time was amazing, and the taxi was even dubbed ‘The Party Bus’. She has had several drivers since then, but all very nice and great with the children. I think it has given my daughter confidence also, travelling in with other children.
I know there has been some negativity surrounding the school transport and a few minor  things have happened in the past, but from a personal point of view, I think we are so lucky to have access to it as it takes the stress out of school drop-off and pick-up, saves us time if we have got to get to work, saves us petrol and of course, reduces our carbon footprint. If you are eligible for this, please do seriously consider it.

Jay was lucky enough to be selected as mascot for Chelsea FC on 15th Jan at Stamford Bridge against Crystal Palace. He had an absolute amazing day and met all the players of each team. He walked down the tunnel with Hakim Ziyech to nearly 40,000 fans singing and clapping...he said the noise of the fans felt like it hit him in the face.

A very memorable, fantastic day for Jay and us.

Chelsea won 1-0 by the way ??

Well done Jay, we are so very proud of you :-)

Congratualtions to Lottie! Lottie Radford is so pleased to share that she has passed her stage 1 in swimming! We are so proud of all the effort and determination she has put in!

Congratulation to Arthur who has got into Cambridge football academy. Everyone is very proud of him!
