Heywood Cup

Every year we award the Heywood Cup to a pupil who has demonstrated excellence in an area of sport, outside of school. Nominations can come from any year group.

This includes any and all areas of sport and could be a team-based game, dance, gymnastics, etc. If you wish to nominate a pupil, then can you please email me by 3pm on Friday 3rd July. Please include an explanation of why you think they should win and a photo if possible.

Power Lines

I have been made aware that some concerns have been raised locally that the school is not a safe environment due to the power lines that run along the perimeter of the school grounds.

I want to reassure you all that school is a safe place to be and that, as with many areas of the school, there is a full risk assessment in place for the power lines which is reviewed annually. All aspects of school that could pose a potential threat have a risk assessment. This includes playground equipment, our swimming pool and fire evacuation as an example.

UK Power Networks (UKPN) carry out regular inspections of the lines and its associated infrastructure, including pruning of any trees that are too close to the lines and inspecting the poles for bird damage. Full inspections are completed every 5/6 years with spot checks in between. The school can also report any concerns directly to UKPN.

The last risk assessment inspection was carried out in August 2025 at the request of the school to make sure that the risk assessment was robust and purposeful. The only action was to add some additional signage, which UKPN did immediately.

UKPN have been working with the school over the last 18 months as they plan to relocate the line and bury them underground. Legal papers to facilitate this are due to be completed in the next few weeks.

I hope this allays any concerns about the power lines and the safety of the school. We work hard to make sure that the school is a safe and secure place to be.

Have a lovely weekend!
