As it is National Volunteers Week, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate and thank all the volunteers that make Rodings such a great place to learn and work.

Schools do not function without volunteers, from the brilliant Governing Board helping to steer the strategic direction of the school, to our amazing Friends of Rodings who raise so much money for the school. We have a brilliant group of ladies that run our lunchtime gardening club along with a band of volunteers that support reading and Forest School. Volunteers are essential to what we do, providing additional support, finance and enrichment.

At Rodings, we are truly grateful to everyone that has offered their time for free to give the children the best experience we can.

However, we need you more than ever!

We are looking for more volunteers to continue the work we are doing. We are particularly looking for people to help with Forest school on Mondays. Your child doesn’t have to be in Key Stage 1 to help out. Please email Mrs Magness at
mrs.magness@rodingsprimary.co.uk.

The Friends are always looking for people to support their fundraising efforts, and with the Summer fair around the corner, it is a good time to tip your toe into volunteering.

What do volunteers get from giving up some of their free time? A sense of supporting the local community, seeing children gain confidence, make progress and achieving. It also helps build volunteers' own skills and confidence.

If you are interested in volunteering at Rodings please get in touch.

And finally, a huge ‘thank you’ goes to all the volunteers that support our school.

Swimming Pool

Unfortunately, we will not be able to use our swimming pool this season. When preparing the pool for lessons, we found various issues that need significant repairs and funding. We are currently looking at options to get the swimming pool back in use in the future.

The swimming pool is a great asset for Rodings, and we are determined to get this fantastic resource up and running again. Working with the Governing Board and our external pool support team, we will look at ways to get the pool back in action and our children swimming again. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Online Messaging - We Need Your Help!

Over the last few weeks I have had to deal with an increase in unkind/abusive online behaviour that has come into school.

The concern is the level of swearing and homophobic language being used to attack classmates. I have seen screenshots of children’s messages from Year 4 upwards using the strongest of swear words and what is more concerning is that the children involved behave perfectly well in school. The mindset has been it’s online, so it's okay.

In school we will continue to promote appropriate internet use, however, we need your support to try and reduce the numbers of incidents coming into school.

Please remember that the majority of messaging services have an age restriction of 13 years old. Use parenting technology that allows you to see any messages that are received and limit the amount of time technology is used unsupervised.

Further advice can be found here: https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/

If you need any further support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Have a lovely weekend!

News from the Friends

Colour Run

Wow, what a fun event the Colour Run was, this is fast becoming a Rodings Favourite! We raised over £1000 and had a brilliant time doing it.

Thank you to all the volunteers especially the staff helpers who certainly took the brunt of the extra paint bags!!

Save the Date - Summer Fete – 13th June

This is the last event of the school year so please do save the date. We love to see as many as you as possible there.

You should have now received raffle tickets in your child’s bag. Please return any sold ticket stubs (along with the money) or unsold tickets by the 12th June. A list of all the prize is below.

This year we are introducing a new competition, The Roding “Hat Off”! Decorate a hat, display it at fete and be within a chance to win a prize. Please see the poster below for details.

As always, we need lots of wonderful volunteers in order make the day run smoothly. If you can spare any time at all, please email Friendsofrodings@gmail.com. We are essentially appealing to dads; in the morning of the fete we put lots of gazebos and have to move heavy things around and would really appreciate some extra height!!

Friday 12th June

In order to help our Summer Fete, the Friday before is always a non-uniform day. In exchange for wearing non-uniform we ask that all children bring in a contribution to the fete. We are asking all Goslings to bring in cakes for the Tea Tent (please no nuts and provide all the ingredients) and all other years to bring in a prize for the Tombola (only shiny and new please, nothing used). We will send more information in the run up to the event but this is just a heads up!
