Issue Number: 27

                                                                                                                 20th March 2026

Once a year Mrs Paget organises a Careers Fair at Dunmow St.Mary's School for all the Year 5 children in the DEEP group of schools.

Rodings parents, along with other parents of the DEEP schools, always go above and beyond to help and spend the day talking to all the children about their jobs and what opportunities there are for them in the future.

This year was no exception and the Hummingbirds and Doves had a fabulous afternoon along with the other 360 children who attended during the day.

Here are some of the comments from our fabulous Year 5's

“I was interested in all of the jobs to see how they work! Thank you for giving up your time just for us”- Charlotte
“There were so many different jobs that we could pick from that we can do when we’re older. It gave us inspiration to think of different jobs." Amelie
“We got to learn about other people’s jobs; even if it is something we don’t want to do it’s still good to learn about it.” Chloe
“All the people were so thoughtful to share what they do.” Izzy
“All the jobs were amazing and it was so kind of you to give up a whole day in that hot room.”-Verity
“It was exciting to see what other jobs were like.”- Albert
“It was quite intriguing because we got to think about all the different jobs.” - Harry

It's been a busy two weeks of sport at Rodings with 5 more USSP events attended!

Last Friday (13th March), six year 6 girls from Kingfishers attended a very chilly Felsted School to play a 5-way Stingers Netball tournament. In the afternoon, eight girls from year 5 played in a football tournament at Dunmow St Mary's Primary School. Both teams of girls played brilliant with fantastic resilience and teamwork.

This week, eight boys from year 4 also went to Dunmow St Mary's for a Year 3/4 football tournament. They showed brilliant enthusiasm and team spirit with mixture of wins, draws and losses; their highlight was a 4-0 win over Felsted!

On Wednesday evening, the Key Stage 2 Street Dance Club, expertly run by Claire Munday, made the long trip to Saffron Walden County High School to perform in the USSP Key Stage 2 dance show. We've not attended this event in many years so it was brilliant that the children were able to go and show off what they had been working on! Many thanks to Claire for her expert choreography, organisation and use of costumes!

Finally, on Friday morning, all of year 1 and 2 went to Dunmow St Mary's to take part in the USSP KS1 dance festival. It was brilliant that we could take both year groups this year to give so many children the chance to perform. Year 1 and 2 both danced brilliantly, doing Rodings proud as ever. Thankyou to Miss Parker and Mrs Rigby for arranging two fantastic performances.

A final special mention goes to Albie and Lochie from Hummingbirds who attended an invitational cross-country event at Bishop's Stortford High School on Friday afternoon. This would have been an excellent final practice race ahead of there cross-country finals in Southend next Wednesday. Good luck boys!
