Orienteering Course Installation

This week, we had a permanent orienteering course installed for us by Cross- Curricular Orienteering, completing another phase of our playground project! The school has been professionally mapped and a permanent KS1 and KS2 course installed- each with 24 control markers.

Whilst this will be of huge benefit to our PE curriculum, really bringing the Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) units to life, the real excitement is the possibilities it opens up across wider learning.

As the name suggests, this really will be a cross-curricular resource, with a lesson bank of over 1000 lessons from all subjects, including maths and English, linking directly to the control markers dotted around the school site. This means that the children will be able to take more of their learning outside the classroom, increasing their physical activity and (hopefully!) making learning even more engaging!

We have been excited about this for a long time and, thanks to the very generous donations made by families and friends at the Y5/6 production of We Will Rock You in the summer, as well as this year's KS1 Nativity and KS2 Carol performances, we have been able to fund this project. Thank you for all of your contributions- they really do help make the school better for the children!

Year 1 Active Maths

This afternoon (Friday 23rd), 12 children from Robins class (Y1) attended the USSP Year 1 Active Maths event at Felsted School Sports Centre. Whilst there, the children took part in 8 different activities that required them to move around, collecting and generating numbers which they used to then solve calculations. There was exercising, throwing, catching, running and racing and the children were having such a great time that they didn't realise they were actually practising maths- "When's the maths starting?" was the quote of the afternoon!
