Attendance Targets

The Department for Education has issued schools with termly attendance targets. These targets are set in comparison to other similar schools, e.g. size and demographics. Our school targets are below:

1.   Year 5 attendance was 93.9%, lower than at least a quarter of similar schools. If you increased it to 97.4%, then your overall attendance would go up by 0.8% percentage points. Your overall persistent absence percentage would drop by 1.1 percentage points.
2.   Year 3 attendance was 94.5%, lower than at least a quarter of similar schools. If you increased it to 98%, then your overall attendance would go up by 0.8% percentage points. Your overall persistent absence percentage would drop by 2.7 percentage points.
3.   Attendance on Fridays was 94.4%, lower than at least a quarter of similar schools. If you increased it to 97.4%, overall attendance would increase by 0.6%%. Your overall persistent absence percentage would drop by 3.8%.

It is always hard to improve attendance during the winter months with illness, but target 3 relating to Friday's should be a quick fix. It takes just nine extra children to attend every Friday to achieve this target.

Being apart of the local community is very important to use, and we have been looking at ways to expand our school so that it is used by the community outside normal school hours. We have been approached by Baby Ballers, a pre-school football group, that builds confidence, develops learning ability and also encourages an active lifestyle. Before we commit, we would like to gauge interest in providing something like this at Rodings. Below is a quick blurb and a link to the website explaining what Baby Ballers provide. The session would run on a Saturday morning. To express interest, with no commitment, please email Christian on the email address below. Please don't contact the school to register interest. Feel free to circulate this information to families who don't attend Rodings. Thank you!

KS2 Swimming Gala

This morning (Friday 16th January), 32 children from KS2 travelled to Great Dunmow Leisure Centre for the USSP KS2 Swimming Gala. Competing as a large school, the children faced talented competition from Great Dunmow Primary, Dunmow St Mary's and Takeley. All swam brilliantly, representing the school well and we saw some great individual performances, including Jack (Y3) and Charlotte (Y5) who came first in their respective races.
