On Tuesday we were really lucky to have the award winning poet, Neal Zetter, come to our school for the day. He began the day with a brilliant assembly where he had us all laughing away as he shared several of his poems with us! He then held a workshop with each class which led to a week of poetry writing. It was so lovely to share and celebrate so many fantastic poems in assembly today.

Book Week is NEXT WEEK and we have some exciting things planned!

We are launching a 'Book in a Jar' competition where your challenge is to choose one of your favourite books and represent it in a jam jar/mason jar. For anyone who would like to take part could you ensure that your jars are returned to your class teachers by Wednesday 5th March.

On Wednesday 5th March we will also be holding a book swap. We would like your child to bring a book that they've read and no longer want ready to exchange it with someone.

On Thursday 6th March we would love for you to come dressed up as your favourite book character for World Book Day.

On Friday 7th March in the afternoon we will be having 'bedtime stories' where the children can bring their pyjamas/slippers/teddy ready to enjoy a story and a hot chocolate.

Uttlesford Cross Country

On Wednesday afternoon, we had a group of children from KS2 take the trip up ti Carver Barracks in Saffron Walden to race in the USSP Uttlesford Cross-Country. These children had already been successful in their races against the Dunmow schools in October, and now it was time to race against the best in Uttlesford!

Despite pretty awful weather, all the children raced their hardest and put in some very impressive performances, showing great determination and resilience.

Special mentions need to go to Veronica, Eliza, Lochie, Albie, Jack and Felicity for their top-10 finishes (each race had upwards of 50 children in each)!

The best-placed school and those who finished in the top-5 of their race qualified to go through to the county final, racing against all of Essex in April. We're very proud to say that Eliza (Yr3) and Albie (Yr4) made it through to this event. We wish them the very best!

Friday 14th March- Year 5 Girls Football

Good Luck to all those in these teams!

Volunteers (still) Needed!

We have been having a really great year of competitive sport. So far, we have attended 8 USSP events, have 4 more upcoming in the next month and there will undoubtedly be more as we go into the summer term. We have only been able to go to the majority of these because our amazing parents have taken their children there, solving our first difficulty: arranging transport.

Finding adults to accompany the children to these events is a separate challenge and one which we hope you can help us with. We'd love to expand our bank of parent volunteers to include those who could accompany a sports trip. If you have the occasional afternoon free (particularly Fridays) and would be happy to help with these trips, we'd love to hear from you!

If you'd like more information, please email mr.jinkerson@rodingsprimary.co.uk

If you're happy to help, please email office@rodingsprimary.co.uk

Thank you,

Mr Jinkerson

News from the Friends

Penny Wars

The first week of Penny Wars has got off to a great start, Toucans look to be out in front but how badly have they been sabotaged?!

Some jars are already quite full so will need to be emptied but please rest assured these coins will be safely put aside and labelled ready to be counted at the end of the competition. Stickers will be added to any emptied jars so the children can keep track of how their class is doing.

The children and staff alike all seem to be enjoying this exciting inter-class competition, thank you for you continued support.
