ADHD Friendly Award

We are delighted to announce that we have been recognised for our approach to ADHD support and providing an inclusive environment for all children, but especially for those with ADHD and neurodiversity.

As reported in the Dunmow Broadcast, we have worked with our DEEP partner schools to make sure that Rodings provides a safe and supportive environment for all children where school can be a challenging and frightening place.

Our award will be displayed proudly in the entrance hall for all to see.

Thank you to Mrs B for putting so much hard work into our submission.

Whatever you are doing, have a brilliant weekend!

Mr Raraty

Weekly Attendance

The Governing Board met for our first Teaching and Learning Committee meeting of this year. We confirmed the election of the Chair and Vice Chair for 2024/2025 and there was no change from the previous year.

We moved on to discuss Governing Board membership, and that there is a potential vacancy coming in the new year – keep your eyes peeled for further information!

Data was reviewed, particularly in regards to Mathematics, governor asked what support was available for parents to use at home to help their children consolidate their learning, we found out that there is a link on the school website that covers exactly this!

Attendance was discussed and during October it was noted as being really good, some days meeting 99%! However it was raised that there were a number of holiday requests that fell during term time, we talked about the impact of the new DfE guidance in relation to the unauthorised absence process.

There were two policies reviewed and agreed and the board planned a meeting to discuss the review and planning for the next version of the School Road Map.

Staff recruitment was discussed and the appointment of Mr Jinkerson to the role of Deputy Head was celebrated by the board!

Take care,

Teaching and Learning Committee

Parentkind – the charity that supports schools - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative –  all you have to do is, opt in through the Asda Rewards app, choose our primary school and shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com, between 2nd September and 30th November 2024

Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to Rodings.  Also, every time somebody opts in, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.

The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage.

Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to Rodings to spend on the things we need the most, such as play equipment for our lunchtimes!

USSP Primary Challenges

This week, our amazing Year 6 Sports Captains have been in PE lessons across the school to run this year's USSP Primary Challenges. There were four different challenges across the whole school. EYFS and year 1 completed the dot-to-dot challenge, seeing many dots they could place on two sheets of paper 2m apart in 30 seconds. Year 2 were challenged to jump a skipping rope as many times as they could in a minute. Year 3 and 4 had to run figure-of-8 loops, using speed and agility to complete as many loops as possible in a 60-second period and year 5 and 6 had to bounce a tennis ball off a wall and catch it with the opposite hand, again completing catches in 1 minute.

The children all enjoyed completing their challenges and the Captains certainly enjoyed leading the sessions- well done!

House Cross-Country

Today, we held our house cross-country event. The children went out across the day in their year groups to complete their run; the race distance increased by year group, with year 6 running approximately 1.5km for their race. The children's positions were collected by the Sports Captains (it's been a busy week for them!) and the house with the lowest combined score was crowned year-group champion!

This week at Forest School ...

Goslings had a fun- filled autumnal morning - making leaf puppets, stirring up a magic potion, lighting sparklers and  even toasting marshmallows! Sparrows spent the afternoon making an obstacle course with the slack line, ropes and stepping stones.  They already have plans for an even bigger, better one next time!

News from the Friends

29th November – Christmas Fayre - 5-7pm

We are getting very excited for this very festive evening to mark the start of the Christmas period! The Fayre will run from 5-7pm so please keep your evening free.

We will be using the wristband system again this year. Wristbands will be available to purchase on Arbor next week (keep an eye on Dojo & WhatsApp groups). We will have two band options:

  • Games, face paint and crafts
  • Games face paint, crafts and a visit to Father Christmas

All items will also be available to purchase separately if you do not want to purchase a wristband.

All our favourites will return – festive food and drink, The Market Place, Enterprise stalls, Santa’s Grotto, Christmas trees (also available to pre-order soon) and much more!!

We’ll be sending more information over the next few weeks so make sure you keep an eye on your WhatsApp groups and Class Dojo.

As always, these event do require a lot of volunteers, we sent messages to the class WhatsApp groups this week but do still need more help. If we do not get enough volunteers we’ll have to limit the amount of games we put on which will be a shame for the children. If you can possibly give up an hour it would help so much. Please email friendsofroding@gmail.com if you think you can help.

School Lottery

As some of you already know, we are a member of Your School Lottery. If you would like to support this you can sign up here: https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/school/rodings-primary-school. This is an easy way to support the school and you might be a winner!

Easy fundraising

With Christmas shopping around the corner please consider using Easy Fundraising (www.easyfundraising.org.uk) whist making purchases.

Download the app or sign up on your browser. When signing up please select “Friends of Rodings Primary School” (there are a couple of other Rodings schools!). Once you are signed up you can access websites through the app, this doesn’t make any difference to the cost of your shopping but a percentage of anything you spend will go directly to the school.

If you would like anymore information about Friends of Rodings or are interested in joining the charity or the helpers list please email friendsofrodings@gmail.com.

Thank you from the Friends!
