It's been a very eventful week at Rodings with lots of interesting things going on.

You may have heard about a giant, a wolf, a monster, an intruder or other strange goings-on this week. To support Miss Raban's writing for pleasure week, Mr Partridge created a great video about some giant footprints that had been found in the playground. I followed this up in assembly, asking the children to investigate what could have gone on. The school has been a buzz with different stories and theories which has led to some brilliant writing.

I will share the video with you so that you can talk about this at home as well.

Thank you to everyone involved in this project.

Fireworks Night
Once again, we had an amazing fireworks display put on by the brilliant Friends of Rodings. It was wonderful to see so many of our families there but also members of the local community. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped organise this community event plus the generous sponsors. Next stop, Christmas Fair!

Whatever you are doing, have a brilliant weekend!

Key Stage 2 Sportshall Athletics

Today (8th November) we took 40 children from Key Stage 2 to Felsted School for the USSP Dunmow Schools Sportshall Athletics competition. The day was divided into a year 3/4 event in the morning followed by a year 5/6 event in the afternoon. The children took part in a variety of field events first, including long jump, javelin and speed bounce, before competing in the track races- the obstacle relay was a popular favourite and special mention needs to go to Abi and Felicity for showing everyone how a 6-lap Paarlauf relay should be run!

The children all did really well and had a lot of fun- it was great to see our core values of challenge and enjoyment in action!

Thank you, as ever, to the parents who were able to help with transport.

Upcoming Sports Events

We have a busy week of in-school sports events next week!

Throughout the week, our amazing Year 6 Sports Captains will be going into every class's PE lessons to run the USSP Primary Skills Challenges. There are 4 different challenges to complete depending on the year group and the best 3 results are sent off to USSP to compete against other schools!

On Friday 15th November, we will run our inter-house cross country event. This is a whole-school event, with distances will gradually increase as the year groups get older with our year 5 and 6 children running approximately 1 mile! Please remember to wear PE kit, and bring a spare pair of shoes as we will be using the field!

News from the Friends

Fireworks night

Wow, this half term has certainly started with a BANG - what a fantastic night we had last night, best fireworks yet!!

Thank you to everyone who attended and made this such a great night. Special thanks to all the volunteers and staff, especially Laura who always manages to plan and organise this spectacular event. Without our brilliant volunteers these events could not go ahead. Finally, an extra special thank you to all the sponsors, you made such a massive difference and meant we managed to raise a lot more money for the school (total profit to be confirmed).

Our sponsors were:

29th November – Christmas Fayre - 5-7pm

We are getting very excited for this very festive evening to mark the start of the Christmas period! The Fayre will run from 5-7pm so please keep your evening free. More information to follow next week!

If you would like to donate a raffle prize or help on the night (either to set up, during the fayre or to clear up afterwards) please contact friendsofrodings@gmail.com. Anything you can give will be really appreciated. We are a small team of volunteers so any extra help is extremely well received.

School Lottery

As some of you already know, we are a member of Your School Lottery. If you would like to support this you can sign up here: https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/school/rodings-primary-school. This is an easy way to support the school and you might be a winner!

Easy fundraising

With Christmas shopping around the corner please consider using Easy Fundraising (www.easyfundraising.org.uk) whist making purchases.

Download the app or sign up on your browser. When signing up please select “Friends of Rodings Primary School” (there are a couple of other Rodings schools!). Once you are signed up you can access websites through the app, this doesn’t make any difference to the cost of your shopping but a percentage of anything you spend will go directly to the school.

If you would like anymore information about Friends of Rodings or are interested in joining the charity or the helpers list please email friendsofrodings@gmail.com.

Thank you from the Friends!

This week at Forest School ...

Goslings had a fun- filled autumnal morning - making leaf puppets, stirring up a magic potion, lighting sparklers and  even toasting marshmallows! Sparrows spent the afternoon making an obstacle course with the slack line, ropes and stepping stones.  They already have plans for an even bigger, better one next time!
