We have had another brilliant week, with lots of exciting learning going on around our school. I have really enjoyed hearing about the children's learning from them and their teachers.

As we approach the end of the half-term I would just like to say what a great job our fantastic Goslings have done at settling in to life at Rodings, and also to all the children in all the other year groups who have been great role models and have helped the Goslings.

Whatever you are doing, have a lovely weekend!

Last Monday was the first of two 'Powerful Poppy' workshops with ceramic artist Laura Hammant. Following instructions from Laura, the children and adults were able to construct their poppy using a range of techniques including; rolling, pinching, joining and smoothing. Each group also had an opportunity to paint a poppy picture using water colours. It was lovely to hear each group discussing what they were making and each poppy was so unique. Next week the groups will be colouring their poppies using glazes, we are very excited to see the results.

If you have ideas for other community arts classes, or would like to run a class, please drop Mrs Coates-Reynolds a message. Rodings are looking to develop these creative sessions through the year.

This November we will be celebrating 'Rodings Remembers' with the return of our wonderful poppy display in the reception area. Last year we had some fabulous artwork sent in as part of this project and we would like to invite you to be creative again. Ideally your work will be wall mountable and no larger than A4 size. There are a few pictures below for inspiration.

Please can all work be sent in to Mrs Coates-Reynolds by Tuesday 5th November to ensure it is added to the display.

Key Stage 2 Golf

On Monday this week (14th October), four children from Key Stage 2 competed in the USSP Golf Tournament held at the 7 hole, par-3 course at Chesterford Research Park in Saffron Walden. Our four golfers had differing ranges of experience, some only having started very recently, but all of them enjoyed the afternoon and played some great golf!

Cross Country Success

You will remember from last week's newsletter that we took a team of 30 Key Stage 2 children to Great Easton for the USSP Cross-Country event. This was a local event for Dunmow schools to qualify for the Uttlesford race. Each school's first 4 runners had their positions added together, and the 4 lowest scoring teams qualify. We are proud to announce that the following teams have qualified:

Year 3 Girls

Year 4 Girls

Year 5 Boys

Year 6 Girls

In addition, all of the top 10 finishers in each race qualify, even if their school team didn't. This means that Albie and Lochie qualify for the year 4 boys race and Oscar qualifies for the year 6 boys race.

The next round will be held at Carver Barracks, in Saffron Walden, in February.

Well done everyone!

Over the weekend Max and his dad took part in attempting to break a Guinness world record. The most amount of penny farthings in a stack!

They did it and Max was one of the youngest to get a medal, take part and make the record books!

World Record Holders - So proud!

Well done Max, that is amazing, we are so proud of you :-)

We are looking to raise money for our 5-year-old son, Ralph, to donate some of his hair and have it made into a wig for a child who doesn’t have any hair via the Little Princess Trust.

Ralph has never had his hair cut, but after overhearing a conversation between his Mum and one of her friends, he decided he wanted to help. There is a video on the fundraising page which explains it in more detail.

Any donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated, and if you are able to post the fundraising page to your social media platforms or know of any local business who may be able to help, we’d be eternally grateful.
