There's lots of lovely sports news and a report from our Governors this week so I'm going to let them do the reporting this week.

Whatever you are doing, have a lovely weekend!

Mr Raraty

Report from the Governing Board

On Monday evening the Governors met for the first time this academic year.  We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new families to Rodings.

At this point we form our committees and appoint Chairs and Vice-Chairs.  We were delighted that Steph Green was appointed Chair of Governors with Leeann Goddard as Vice-Chair, who was also re-appointed as a co-opted governor for another term.  We still have a couple of vacancies on our board.

Each governor is linked to a class and these were confirmed together with links to other areas such as safeguarding, SEND, inclusion, training and attendance.

Mr Raraty delivered his update and it was acknowledged that attendance overall is currently good although a number of leave of absence requests for the year ahead had already been received.  We then had an update on the data from last year and were pleased that these results were broadly either in line or above the national average.  The last part of his update focussed on the appointment of a new Deputy Headteacher.

Further reports on safeguarding, SEND, premises and health and safety were received.  We were pleased to hear that staff had completed their safeguarding training and that the induction for new employees had been completed.  Governors will be undertaking their safeguarding and PREVENT training over the coming weeks to ensure we are compliant.

We had several policies to agree and have the schedule of school visits in our diaries, the first of which took place this week.  We have a timetable of visits with one taking place each half term to monitor different areas of the curriculum and school life in general.  As well as visits we have a programme of training each term with the first session next Monday.

We are all looking forward to the year ahead and to seeing the children engaged, happy and flourishing during their time with us.

Andrea Beard

Partnership Governor

Weekly Attendance

Lani and Eva-Rose attended the Spelling Bee at Stebbing Primary.

Both girls did an amazing job with Lani coming 4th and Eva-Rose 12th out of 16 children.

The Sports Pages

This week, Rodings attended three sports events run by USSP (Uttlesford School Sports Partnership)!

On Wednesday 9th October, we took a boys and girls team to the year 5/6 football tournament in Saffron Walden. We played some well-practised schools and our children represented us brilliantly showing all of our core values. Our brand new team kit caught a few people's attention too!

This morning (Friday 11th October), we took 30 KS2 children to the KS2 Cross Country competition in the fields outside Great Easton Primary. All of our children ran really well, with year 3 and 4 competing over 1000m and year 5 and 6 over 1500.

Special mentions go to Albie and Abi who came 2nd in their races, and Felicity, who came 3rd in hers!

Finally, this afternoon we took 5 KS2 children to a Boccia and Kurling competition ran by USSP and hosted by Dunmow St Mary's. The children really enjoyed themselves and really were a credit to Rodings! Well done, boys!

Finally, a really big thank-you to the parents who gave up their time to take their children to these events. We really want to attend more events across the year but can't always secure coaches and minibuses so your support is really appreciated!

This week at Forest School ...

We had a beautiful day at the forest this week. The Goslings chose a special tree each, gave their tree a name and a hug! We had a campfire for the first time, and they all showed me how sensible they were around it, which is fantastic.

In the afternoon, it was Wrens' turn to cook apple slices, while Swifts explored and made more conker creations !
