We have had a brilliant first week! Our new Goslings are settling well with the last batch will be arriving on Monday. Today's newsletter mainly contains updates and useful information for the future.

ArtsMark Award

At Rodings, we believe that the arts and creativity provide amazing opportunities for children to learn about the world, discover new skills and talents, but also to help them regulate their behaviour and wellbeing. We are passionate about the arts and the impact it can have on children's lives.

To recognise this fact, we are on an ArtsMark Award journey to gain accreditation to celebrate the work that goes on to promote the arts at Rodings. We have some big ambitious plans but we need your help to gather some information to steer our ArtsMarks journey in the right direction.

Please could you complete this short survey to assist our future planning.

Next week, the children will bring home a postcard which we ask them to respond to and bring back to school. Their answer to the question on the postcard can be as creative as they like; writing, drawing, painting.  Whatever inspires them!

Thank you!

The most important information you will receive all year!!

Online safety training for parents by the Breck Foundation - Monday 16th September 6pm

The DEEP partnership of school has arranged an online safety workshop for parents for this coming Monday. I can not emphasise enough how important this information will be about keeping your child safe. Online safety is the new stranger danger.

The workshop is being led by the Breck foundation and will last an hour. The zoom link is below:

https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81625220354?pwd=9mrP58SYsn4GTRJFbGbvUOpA3TSQIm.1

This workshop is for all parents, not just those with older children. I hope you find it a useful session.

Dates

All upcoming dates can be found on the home page of our website. However, I have put together a list of all the current dates for Autumn term for your information. More dates are likely to be added which we will notify you about through the newsletter and the website. There may be times when he have to change a date or time. Again, we will let you know about any changes. We will try and avoid doing this as much as possible.

Attendance

As mentioned before the summer holiday, the Department of education has changed the regulations around attendances. This is due to the fall in school attendance since the pandemic. I have put together a one-page information sheet for your information which is attached further down this newsletter. I will start publishing weekly attendance data in this newsletter.

Secondary School Applications

Essex County Council has now opened the application window for secondary places for September 2025. All the relevant information can be found by following the link below. This includes the secondary school admission booklet that contains the admissions criteria for all the secondary schools. We hope everyone had a great first full week back and a special welcome to all the new Goslings families who have started this week – we hope it was a smooth transition for you all.

We just wanted to remind you of a few things coming up:

1st October – 7.00PM – Friends of Rodings Primary School AGM

This is a short meeting briefing our fundraising efforts over the previous year and where the money has been spent, as well as electing any new members. This is then followed by a wine and cheese reception where you will get the opportunity to informally chat to the Friends to find out more (or just drink wine and eat cheese!).

Mrs Paget and Mrs Tunnard have very kindly offered to run a creche for anyone who is unable to get childcare for the evening.  The creche will be running from 7.00-8.30pm and will include a hot chocolate, biscuits, a bedtime story and a film. We are asking for a £2 donation towards this. Children should arrive in their PJ's/onesies etc ready for a relaxed evening.  Please book your place via the Arbor shop.

Please, please try to make an effort to attend this meeting. As a charity we have to meet a quorate of attendance at our AGM. If this is not met we may not be able to continue.

11th October – Bingo night

Eyes down, dabbers at the ready!

This is an event for the whole family and the first of the year. We are busy behind the scenes finalising details of this. We will be sending out more information very soon. Watch this space!!

7th November – Fireworks night

The famous Rodings Firework Night is back!

More information to follow nearer the time.

Thank you to everyone that purchased pre-loved uniform on the ‘meet the teachers’ evening. We hope to make this a more regular fixture.

If you would like anymore information about Friends of Rodings or are interested in joining the charity or the helpers list please email friendsofrodings@gmail.com.

Thank you from the Friends!

Verity got awarded squad swimmer of the year at this years Dunmow Atlantis presentation day. This is her first year swimming for the club and we are so proud!

Well done Verity, what a fantastic achievement.  We are so proud of you :-)

Over the summer holidays, Charlie and his best friend Zack climbed mount Snowdon in Wales. A total of 1085m. We’re so proud of Charlie’s motivation and determination to reach the top. It was a very windy day to be climbing, but he did brilliantly to continue and achieve what he had set out to do. Well done Charlie x

Well done Charlie, that is amazing!  We are so proud of you :-)
