Our Fabulous Year 6!

I could not be prouder of our Year 6 children! This week they have completed the national assessment for the end of Key Stage 2, also known as SATs, and they have approached them with a determined and focused attitude. Although there were apprehension and nerves, they demonstrated that they wanted to do their best. I could not ask for any more! Whatever the results, you have made yourselves and the school proud.

I would like to thank the Year 6 staff for supporting the children through the last few months in such a calm and positive way. You're the best!

Special Events Next Week

Just a reminder about two events next week. Firstly, class photographs will take place on Monday morning. If Monday is a PE day for your child, can they come in their school uniform and have their PE kit in a separate bag to get changed into.

We will be holding the final drop-in session of the year on Thursday after school. You are welcome to come and view the children's work between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.

Goodbye and Good Luck Mrs Holmes

Today was Mrs Holmes last day at Rodings. She didn't want a fuss so we have kept 'thank you' low-key. Many of the children have been taught by Mrs Holmes as she has covered many classes when teachers have been ill or covered PPA time. So, after 14 years at Rodings she is going onto new adventures outside of education. Thank you for everything you have done for the children at Rodings whether it was sharing your fabulous art skills, accompanying children on many residentials or supporting children with their learning. Everyone at Rodings wishes you all the best in your new job.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mr Raraty

Governor Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

The school's teaching and learning committee met on Monday 13th May.

The minutes of the previous meeting were discussed, reviewed and approved.

To start, we had a membership update and we were all pleased to hear that Sam Kilpatrick will be joining the governing board as our Staff Governor. We look forward to welcoming her at our next meeting. We still have a Co-opted Governor vacancy which we look forward to hopefully filling soon.

Mr Raraty gave his Headteacher's update where he spoke about the Safeguarding Audit which had taken place with Essex County Council. This was a thorough but worthwhile experience for the school. We are currently awaiting the report but he was extremely positive.

We were sad to hear that Sharon Holmes will be leaving us on Friday and also the retirement of Debbie Simpkins who will be leaving at the end of the academic year. On behalf of the Governors, can I thank you both for all your hard work and commitment that you have given to Rodings over the years and we wish you well.

Mr Raraty went on to tell us about how well the Year 6 children had been dealing with their SATS. He commented on their good behaviour and focus. We hope they all have a restful weekend after this week.

The new parents meeting for the Gosling Class 2024 will take place on the 5th June. A governor will be present for you to meet and also a representation of the Friends of Rodings. The new class of Reception will be one form entry with a class of 30 children.

The detailed school development plan was next for discussion where Mr Raraty talked in detail about how well and on track the plan is.

We discussed in detail the work that has been put into the school being part of the Goldsmiths Artsmark Award. As the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, Artsmark supports settings to develop and celebrate their commitment to arts and cultural education for all children and young people. Their flexible framework helps embed arts, culture, and creativity across the curriculum, and Goldsmiths’ will play a key role in supporting schools to reflect, evaluate and celebrate their arts provision through its national training and support offer.

Training has taken place by Mr Raraty and Mrs Coates-Reynolds and a lot of hard work is going into the preparation and planning of the Statement of Commitment which will begin the school's two year process to achieve this award.

An in depth look at the schools Attainment and Progress data was good to see, an increase in children receiving ‘Greater Depth’ can be seen in Reading, Writing and Maths. Mr Crawley gave us an insight into assessment and the work that goes into this process.

We then went over the results from both the Parent and Pupil surveys and analysed the data.

Mr Crawley gave us an update on the school radio. He has been working hard to fix and update the parts needed and we look forward to it hopefully being up and running before the end of the year.

We discussed our Governor Plan and talked about sharing out responsibilities now that we have a nearly full board!

Sports Day is fast approaching! Mr Crawley gave us an update on the changes this year and we look forward to seeing the children enjoy their day of sport!

Let’s hope the sun shines!

This week at Forest School...????

As rain was forecast we finally got to try out our lovely new parachute shelter! We all sat under it and toasted some pineapple chunks on the fire, feeling very cosy indeed!

We also talked about the badgers that live in our Forest School woods - we talked about their setts, what they eat, and how to look for signs of badgers.  I then set a challenge to the Goslings- to make a comfy sett for my badger cubs (not real unfortunately, made of logs!) We were so impressed with how carefully the Goslings made the setts, those baby badgers will be very comfy!
