KS1 Curriculum

Rodings Primary School is committed to providing a place of excellence and ambition, where children’s personal development and academic success are nurtured through fun and engaging learning. The school aims to provide inspirational experiences through the curriculum so that children’s curiosity and individuality grows.  At Rodings, children love learning and are happy and kind.  Working in partnership with the whole school community, all at Rodings feel safe and empowered to succeed.

Our aim is to ensure that all children, including the most disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) or high needs are equipped with the knowledge which will help to prepare them for their future success, this is also known as ‘cultural capital’.

We are committed to nurturing children to follow their interests and passions so that they are well equipped to reach their full potential.

We take a growth mindset approach which allows the children to feel as though they can achieve anything if they try their hardest.

Our aim is to provide a rich, inspiring curriculum which focuses on the acquisition of knowledge through a topic themed approach which makes the learning more meaningful. This approach is enriched by experiences (trips, , visitors to the school, activity days, etc). Each topic has a focus subject and is enhanced by Art and DT and enriched by other foundation subjects.

In order to gain the most from their learning, children are encouraged and challenged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in different ways. This ensures that they master the curriculum and have sound foundations for the next steps in learning.

Personal, social and health education (PSHE) is an important part of our school curriculum.  PSHE is taught throughout each subject and also in discrete standalone lessons or as part of our curriculum

We encourage parents to be involved in their children’s learning and provide information about what and how their children are learning and how to support them at home.
