Governors

The Government requires each school to have a management team – the Governing Board.

This team is made up of volunteers who include parents, staff, members of our local community and the local authority.

The governing body has a range of important responsibilities and works in partnership with the Headteacher and all school staff to shape the future of the school and decide key issues that will help to raise standards and to determine how the school will best spend its money to achieve these aims.

Below is a list of current governors and their details.

  • Mrs Steph Green

    Chair of Governors

I was brought up in Northamptonshire but after studying in London and abroad and then living in Chester, I have now lived in High Easter for longer than I have lived anywhere else!

My involvement with Rodings Primary School started as a parent in 2005 and I have loved the school since that first time I came through the front door. Before children I worked in logistics running large warehouses – first for a large national food company and then for several publishing houses. I now work in training in education which is much more interesting!

My hobbies used to include forest rally driving and climbing ‘munro’ mountains, but nowadays I prefer gardening, looking after my free-range pigs, all sorts of craft activities, reading and singing loudly. I can do some of these all at the same time!

I love running the local Rainbows group (the youngest part of Girlguiding) and am lucky enough to help with the Reception class at forest school.

  • Mrs Leeann Goddard

    Vice-Chair Of Governors Parent Governor

I am a relative newcomer to the Rodings area, having moved here in 2012. Both of my sons attend Rodings and are currently in Year 4 and Reception.Having worked in the Financial sector for almost 20 years, currently as a project manager, I wanted to use my professional experience to benefit a public or charitable organisation, becoming a Governor has been a great opportunity to do this!

I enjoy all things arts, gardening, and beach walks with the dogs. I am currently preparing to complete part of the Thames Walk in September.

I have been a Governor since 2016 and I am impressed by the range of experiences and activities that the children have the opportunity to get involved in, as well as their academic learning, and the culture in which they experience them. Everyone at Rodings is striving to provide the best school experience for the children, I am very proud of being a part of the Rodings School.

  • Mrs Andrea Beard

Chair of Finance Committee Parent Governor

Andrea has a daughter in Year 5 and has been a parent governor since 2015.  Having worked for almost 30 years in the legal profession in London, the latter 15 of those as an Office Manager, she decided to have a career change in 2017 and now works in the office of a local primary school which she finds extremely rewarding. In her spare time she is Tawny Owl at her local Brownie unit, taxi driver for her daughter, enjoys everything to do with cooking and runs a few miles a week to try and work off calories from trying out new recipes!

  • Mrs Leah Bruce

    Co-opted Governor

Settled in to the Rodings in 2010, having never heard of them before. But oh what a find. Having been looking and considering the role of a School Governor for a number of years was delighted to be linked to a local school where can help my local community.

I moved to Essex in 2001 when I joined Ford Motor Company where I have had various roles within Manufacturing Engineering specifically powertrain engines. My current position is strategy development on Global Diesel Engine production. In addition to my day job, for the majority of my 18 years I have worked with various teams within Ford Motor Company promoting STEM to school children in various guises; career evenings, organising and supporting various events for teachers and for school children. It is from this work that being a School Governor seemed a natural progression.

  • Mr Brian Hardcastle

    Co-opted Governor

I have thoroughly enjoyed my four years as Community Governor at Rodings
with special responsibility for SEN. I'm proud to be part of an excellent
school with dedicated and talented staff, happy and motivated children and
    inspiring leadership.
I have worked in education all my life firstly as a geography teacher and
latterly as Senior Master at Forest School, London. Sport has always been a
passion. I played and coached football at a good level and squash at county
and international level. Social golf and indoor bowls have to suffice now,
along with walking, gardening, NT,RHS and travel. We frequently visit Japan
where we have family and I'm fascinated by Victorian history and literature.

  • Mr John Hildrew

    Co-opted Governor

John has lived in the village for 15 years and enjoys playing golf and walks with the local walking group. The rest of his time is taken up with DIY, reading and spending time with 3 grandchildren who love cycling, swimming and walks in the forest. John also visits Miami on at least an annual basis to catch up with his son and family which includes another 4 grandchildren.

  • Mr Colin Todd

    Local Authority Governor

Born in Shenfield, I have lived in Essex all my life. During my early business life, wishing to broaden my outlook and opportunities, I chose to study for an accounting qualification, qualifying firstly as Chartered Accountant and then as Chartered Tax Adviser. This enabled me to follow a career in audit management and then subsequently in the field of tax advisory. As an audit manager, I spent time auditing charities, including clients in the education sector. Whilst my focus today is taxation and property, I still continue to advise a religious charity which I find highly rewarding.

Whilst initially educated privately, for the most part, my education was in a state school and therefore I remain an advocate of effective state education available to all.

As a Local Authority Governor, I am able to bring my high level of professional skills and attention to detail to this important strategic role. I am privileged to a member of the board of Governors of this amazing school, something I am very passionate about.

  • Mr Colin Raraty

    Headteacher

Mr Raraty was appointed headteacher in April 2014 having previously taught in Blackmore and Epping. He lives in Harlow where he is busy renovating his house. He likes long walks, drawing and listening to music. His responsibilities include staff development, assessment and child protection.

  • Mrs Alice Smith

    Parent Governor

Alice is mummy to Henry who is in Year 1 at Rodings. She works as a Primary Teacher at a local Junior School. Before moving back home to Essex, Alice lived and worked as a graphic designer in advertising. Her passions are art, design, film and history. When she has time, she also loves to sing and visit historic houses, but seems to spend a lot of time playing superheroes and reading Harry Potter!

  • Mrs Sarah Stevenson

    Co-opted Governor

Mrs Stevenson has worked in education since 1995, firstly in Marketing and PR, then as an agent for international students and recently as an English teacher for Spanish teenagers.  Mrs Stevenson loves art and she organises a big art exhibition once a year in High Roding. She has 21 year old twins. Her daughter is studying philosophy at university and her son is an actor, currently on CBBC. Mrs Stevenson also has a big dog called Jim.

  • Mr Mark Walker

    Parent Governor

We've lived in High Roding since 2011 and my wife grew up in the area going to Rodings Primary. I have 2 children at the school in KS1 and KS2 at time of writing this. I am the Commercial Director of a telecoms business based in London managing a team working with multiple suppliers, cost management and sales strategy development. I am passionate about the schools success and ensuring the best environment, structure and wellbeing for our children and all of the staff.

  • Mr Owen Wright

    Staff Governor

Mr Wright joined the Rodings Primary school in September 2015 and is currently teaching Year 2. In his spare time he enjoys going to the cinema and playing rugby and football. He loves rugby and enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for sport with the children.

  • Mrs Claudia Charles

    Parent Governor

My family and I moved to the Rodings in 2015 and fell in love with country living.

I have worked in secondary education since 2006 holding various management roles which has helped me gain experience in planning and budgeting as well as running school events to aid and support students learning.  Being an Art and Technology teacher I try to be as creative as possible in my spare time; including painting, sewing and photography.

I have two little girls who keep me on my toes. We enjoy planting and growing seeds together, trying to make our flowerbeds as colourful as possible.
