Travel and Transport
Rodings is in a unique position of serving a large and dispersed priority catchment area, meaning that many people need to use cars, home to school transport and public transport to get to school. The information below should help you make informed decisions about the best and most environmentally friendly way to travel to school. We are working closely with Essex County Council and other outside agencies and organisations to improve the impact of parking and transport in our local area. Please remember, whichever form of transport you use to get to school, be considerate of our neighbours and other road users when parking and travelling to school.
Rodings' School Travel Policy can be viewed below.
Home to School Transport
Essex County Council provides home to school transport for some children in our priority catchment area.
Provision for children of compulsory school age
Essex County Council, in accordance with its statutory duty, will provide free home to school transport for children of compulsory school age to the nearest available* school for their home address who meet the 'qualifying distance' criteria, which are:
• 2 miles or more for children below the age of eight
• 3 miles or more for children aged eight and above
For children aged eight the change in entitlement to free transport will be implemented from the start of year four.
Other circumstances may be considered. More information about home to school transport can be found here.
Walking and Cycling
Where appropriate and safe to do so, parents and children should walk to school. We also have facilities for children to park their bikes or scotters at the front of the school.
