Travel and Transport

Rodings is in a unique position of serving a large and dispersed priority catchment area, meaning that many people need to use cars, home to school transport and public transport to get to school. The information below should help you make informed decisions about the best and most environmentally friendly way to travel to school. We are working closely with Essex County Council and other outside agencies and organisations to improve the impact of parking and transport in our local area. Please remember, whichever form of transport you use to get to school, be considerate of our neighbours and other road users when parking and travelling to school.

Rodings' School Travel Policy can be viewed below.

Home to School Transport

Essex County Council provides home to school transport for some children in our priority catchment area.

Provision for children of compulsory school age

Essex County Council, in accordance with its statutory duty, will provide free home to school transport for children of compulsory school age to the nearest available* school for their home address who meet the 'qualifying distance' criteria, which are:

• 2 miles or more for children below the age of eight

• 3 miles or more for children aged eight and above

For children aged eight, the change in entitlement to free transport will be implemented from the start of year four.
Other circumstances may be considered. More information about home to school transport can be found here.

Walking and Cycling

Where appropriate and safe to do so, parents and children should walk to school. We also have facilities for children to park their bikes or scooters at the front of the school.

Kiss and Drop

In the mornings, we operate a 'Kiss and Drop' system to deliver the children safely into school. Using the one-way system on school grounds, drive into the main gates, find a place to stop and then allow the children to get out of the car. The children, guided by school staff, then make their way to the appropriate entrance. Parents can remain in the car, meaning that there will be a free flow of traffic, reducing the congestion on the main road outside of school. If you

Collection by car

If you have no choice but to come to school by car, please find an appropriate, safe and legal place to park. The lay-by outside the front of the school offers parking for up to 20 vehicles. Also, go into the top car park to see if there are any spare spaces. If you need to park in the residential street near the school, please be aware of our neighbours and park in a way that is respectful. Thank you!
